The Early History
Our Buxton family
have been traced back to the villages of Ellastone & Wootton,
Staffordshire, England in the early 1600's.
The first we have record of is an Alexander Buxton born about 1564. Six generations later the family are still in
the same village. In the 1800's one of the decendants Joseph Buxton married
a Lucy Hathaway from Walsall, Staffordshire and they eventually moved
to Walsall between 1842 & 1845.
Between 1857 and 1862, Joseph's brother John and his wife Susannah with their children, Joseph Shirley Buxton and his new wife Louisa, Mary, Martha,
Elisabeth and William, John's sisters, Ann and Harriet all
moved to Christchurch, New Zealand .
Henry Buxton went to United States sometime before 1871 and some remained in the UK. It would be good to hear from anyone who can recognise a link to family in other parts of the world.
Above is a photo of John Buxton's house as it is today in the village of Wootton.
